Course Assignment

Journal Article Review Assignment (Weekly Assignment: 25% of semester grade)

A. From a professional journal (you will be given a list of the professional journals you can choose from for this assignment), read an article on a variety of topics about music education (different due date for each topic.

B.  Write a 2 page paper on the article. Include at least the following:

If the article is a “research study”

  • The reference for the article in American Psychological Association (APA) format
  • The title of the study
  • The author(s) of the study
  • The purpose of the study
  • The hypothesis(es) of the study, if  given
  • Procedures
  • Results/Conclusion
  • A reaction to the study 

If the article is not a “research study”

  • The reference for the article in American Psychological Association (APA) format

·        The title of the article

·        The author of the article

·        A summary of the article

·        A reaction to the article

    a. relate it or compare it to the content covered in class or what you have learned in other classes or from experience.

    b. implications it has for you as a future professional in your discipline.

    c. relate it to your experiences.

C. Give an oral report to the class on your research.



Introduction to Resources on Music Education

Research in the field of music can be complex. You may need secondary sources or sources that review and critique specific pieces, composers, performers, etc.

Or, you may need the actual composition itself to investigate. Or in the case of this class articles that explore the teaching of music: choral, orchestra, band, etc.

This guide will provide resources and tips for searching for various kinds of music-related resources specifically for MUS 135 and music education.
